(Magyar Állami Népi Együttes) (exciting traditions, music and dances!)
Hungarian Celtic punk band, they throw pennywhistles and fiddles over pop metal power chords while singing odes to drinking in their best fake Irish accents. Fun!
The group has always focused on traditional music, not only playing but also teaching and arranging folk music to modern standards. Strong play on traditional instruments such as the Duda (bagpipe), Citer, lute, flutes and percussion. Great traditional vocals by the female and male singers and sometimes surprisingly subtle arrangements which gives the music just a bit extra. Good example is the Celtic harp interlude on Ne menj szivem.
Úzgin Űver was formed in 1991 in Kecskemet, Hungary. The name itself is the name of a Mongolian settlement, where an ancient sacred burial ground was discovered. It means something like ’dry desert area’, ’poor harvest’. The music is almost entirely instrumental, even the human voice is used as an instrument. The has been to create a unique blend of the folk music of different nations, using old and new instruments, sounds, tunes.
Irish and Hungarian musicians playing a unique fusion of British pop and Russian folklore. A secret combination that producing some very interesting music. The majority of the songs are based on Russian folk tunes.
